Through a synthesis of a 16 speaker audio soundscape by The Broadway Project, interactive sculptures, video installation and a constantly shifting lighting state, METRO-BOULOT-DODO have created an immersive atmospheric environment that takes the viewer through an autumnal 24 hours. As the viewer enters the gallery they encounter an iron bed with an oak tree protruding from the mattress, an Austin Sprite surrounded by branches, a decayed iron bath with projected ducks that swim off its edges and late night teletext which charts a woman's restless night. Radios come to life, projections appear and fade, sounds drift around the gallery as the viewer is taken on an autumnal journey.
AUTUMN is the second part of METRO-BOULOT-DODO's FOUR SEASONS project where the company are creating two outdoor installations and two gallery installations. SPRING and AUTUMN have already been completed, WINTER will premiere in June 2008 and SUMMER, the next gallery installation, will be launched late 2009.
AUTUMN was commissioned by The City Gallery, Leicester, with financial assistance from Arts Council England, Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, PRS Foundation and Leicester City Council. AUTUMN was presented in The City Gallery's two main spaces from September 13th - October 27th 2006. METRO-BOULOT-DODO are now seeking interest to take AUTUMN on a national tour between 2008 & 2010.
