LYVEDEN NEW BIELD BONFIRE NIGHT

DATE: 2009
GENRE: Outdoor Large Scale
STATUS: Complete
COMPANY: MBD, National Trust

Description

On the 5th and 6th of November 2009 the MBD team unveiled their most ambitious and exciting project to date. Lyveden New Bield: Gunpowder, Treason and Plot offered a dazzling, dynamic and sometimes gruesome alternative to the usual bonfire night festivitie. It proved to be THE bonfire night show of 2009.

Lyveden New Bield's historic connections to the gunpowder plot were celebrated with a striking alternative to the usual bonfire festivities on the 5th and 6th November 2009. The evening spectacle drew on the history of the building and in particular Francis Tresham's connection with the gunpowder plot of 1605, bringing the building to life using large-scale projections, an original sound track, live performance, visual art sculptures and a spectacular lighting and firework display.

metro-boulot-dodo worked closely with Fermynwoods Contemporary Arts' outreach programme to deliver a series of workshops for students and young people. MBD artists also had a week-long residency, working with B-tec Performing Arts students at Kingswood School to create the performance elements of the event. Video artist Andy Eathorne worked alongside Cultural Community Partnerships to deliver a series of workshops for young people in East Northamptonshire, creating video content for the event's visual projections.
