Introduction Play a game of chance to create an experience unique to you as you take a ride in the “Whispers” rickshaw. As you spin through the city streets, put on the headphones and immerse yourself in a world where secret pockets hide intriguing objects. Classical Chinese music, low-fi electronica, new technology and story telling all intermingle to create a philosophical ride.
Project description Two audience members at a time will enter the specially created rickshaw and put on a set of headphones. Five short stories about 5 individuals will play, exploring notions of fate, luck and the journeys we take to fulfil our dreams, all accompanyied by an original score by a classically trained Chinese musician. The canopy of the rickshaw will be designed by visual artists and at certain points the public will be encouraged to open pockets inside the canopy to reveal objects relating to the stories and their themes.
Originally inspired by a trip to South West China in 2008, Whispers From a Rickshaw will be an intimate arts experience featuring stunning audio, an intriguing narrative and beautiful artwork, offering everyone a fun, thoughtful and inspirational experience.
Artists MBD have collaborated with Ling Peng and Steve Gibbs on the musical score, and visual artists Steve Bridgeman and Tasha Xhei Li Whittle on the design of the rickshaw.
